Bonjour,

I just wanted to start by wishing everyone a safe and enjoyable Halloween. I was very impressed by all the creative and original costumes! Bravo! I also wanted to thank everyone who brought something for our food bank drive. I saw many filled boxes in the foyer this morning which was great.

Devoirs:

Actualités: Breezy and Miel need to present a current event (links to french sites on blog). The article you present doesn't have to be long but you need to read it in French!

Science: Wear or pack appropriate (e.g. WARM) clothing for tomorrow's field trip to Dallas Road. The weather should be sunny but the COLD by the water. Also, it is slippery on the beach so please wear footwear that has some grip to it (e.g. hiking shoes).

For parents who are driving (thank-you!), we will be leaving around 12:30. Please go to the classroom (Room 204) at 12:20 so we can sort out rides and leave on time. Don't forget to take your insurance and licence to the office before hand if you have not already done so.

A demain,

Mme Couture

Bonjour,

Please make sure to complete Math assignment if you have not already done so (Explain everything you know about integers...you can use images, diagrams and words/numbers to explain)

Sciences: review notes on weathering (see questions from yesterdays post)

Sciences Humaines: review notes and read over questions relating to water exploitation (e.g. irrigation etc.)

For Monday: if you want to participate in the Halloween costume contest, dress up for Monday! If not, wear orange and black!

Passe une très bonne fin de semaine,

Bonjour,

As per our discussion in class this morning, "pas de devoirs" or no homework means daily review of new concepts being learned in class as this will greatly increase long term understanding. It is also an effective study plan for quizzes and tests especially compared to last minute cramming. Try explaining new concepts and ideas to a parent/sibling or friend. Talking about/discussing your learning is hugely beneficial in helping you remember the information.

Idea for review questions to go over:

1. What are three examples of weathering? Can you think of two biological weathering processes and two mechanical ones?

2. What are the three types of rocks you read about today? Do you remember anything about how they are each formed?

3. In preparation for Social Studies, can you think of three of the cities you looked at for your assignement and whether or not they had rivers nearby? If so, what were their names (the rivers) and where are these cities in the world?

4. What happens when you subtract a negative number from another number? Does the initial value increase or decrease? (e.g. 8 - -10)

6. Why is the idea of "creating zero" (e.g +2 and -2) important when adding and subtracting integers?

5. What happens if you try to subtract a negative number (like -5) from a positive number (like +9) using a picture or drawing? What do you have to add to your initial value so that you can show the subtraction?(hint: does a "zero" or one positive and one negative change your initial value?) (e.g. Is + 5 with a +1 and a -1 added to it equal something other than +5)?

Maths: please complete a detailed explanation of everything you know about integers (even if it seems simple to you, include the information). This is an individual assignment so I can assess student understanding at this point in the unit. We will continue with further review and practice of adding and subtracting integers over the course of the next week.

There are some students who have still not submitted Science and Social Studies assignments. Please get them in to M Patterson!

Reminder: Tomorrow is photo retake day and the last day to donate to Halloween for the Hungry with a non-perishable food item.

Passez une très bonne soirée,

Mme Couture

Bonjour,

It's Halloween for the Hungry! If you can donate a non perishable food item to our Halloween Food Bank Drive, it would be most welcome! Let's see if our Advisory can win the prize for the most donations (we have a long way to go if we are going to beat the students in Advisory 43 who have already filled two boxes!)

Just a reminder that Miel, Ryan H. et Breezy need to present a current event on Friday (please read an article in FRENCH...there are links on the blog to news sites in french).

Maths: please complete partie B on the pink handout from yesterday. Verify your answers (if you take away a negative, does the value you started with increase or decrease?). Use a number line if that helps you or the comparison with the removal of sand bags and a hot air balloon.

Science: (please hand in mineral lab if you have not already done so)

review vocabulary

composé: a gas or liquid containing more than one element (e.g. H2O)

minéral: solid and made up of an/several elements

roche: contains multiple minerals

Sciences Humaines: If you have not already done so, please complete and submit assignment (due Monday) where you looked at 10 of the 20 largest cities in the world and checked to see if they are near or on a river (include the name of the river).

Reminder: Photo retakes are on Friday October 28th
Reminder: PE strip needed for tomorrow (Thurdsay)
Reminder: Permission forms needed for Tuesday field trip!

Bonjour,

I hope everyone enjoyed our visit to Mount Tolmie where we looked at different types of weathering and soil formation. Think about why the soil would be richer and less rocky the further down the mountain one goes.

How does the soil get there?

How does the difference in soil richness and fertility impact the development of different civilizations?

Devoirs:

Maths: Please complete part A (first half of worksheet) Show work where possible when adding whole numbers concretely (through drawing).

Sciences Humaines: Don't forget assignment (city development around/close to rivers) See previous few blog postings for specific details.

Please ensure that you submit your permission forms for next Tuesday's field trip to Dallas road.

Sciences Humaines: Please see last weeks post regarding city/river assignment which is due tomorrow.

Français: Please work on poem as it is due by the end of class tomorrow.
